About This Place

Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Milwaukee’s North Oakland Avenue, Immys African Cuisine offers an authentic and evocative journey through East African flavors that delight both newcomers and seasoned palates alike. This cozy yet lively East African restaurant has quickly become a cherished spot for those seeking the rich, diverse tastes of African cuisine served with genuine warmth and care.

The menu at Immys reads like a thoughtfully curated celebration of traditional dishes, each imbued with bold spices and fresh ingredients that sing on the palate. Standouts include the Coconut Chicken Curry and Goat Curry, where tender meats simmer gently in deeply fragrant sauces that perfectly balance creaminess and spice. Vegetarians and vegans will find joy in the Coconut Curry Chickpeas and hearty Lentil Stew, each dish richly seasoned to evoke a comforting, home-cooked feeling.

Customers rave about the signature accompaniments – the soft, pillowy Fufu acts as the perfect canvas for sopping up the luscious curries, while the Fried Plantains and Fried Spinach add crispy, flavorful texture contrasts to the meal. Those who delight in small but flavorful bites will appreciate the Chicken Egusi Sambusas, savory pastries that provide an irresistible introduction to African street food.

The atmosphere at Immys mirrors its food: warm, inviting, and vibrant. From hearty brunches shared with family to casual dinners with friends, the space fosters a genuine sense of community and discovery. Diners often note the friendly and welcoming service, with generous samplings offered to help guests find their favorites—an embodiment of the hospitality at the heart of African dining culture.

Reviewers consistently highlight the restaurant’s authenticity and dedication to quality. One happy guest remarked, “The food was hearty, perfectly seasoned and delicious! The lines are long AND worth it!” Others emphasize the clear, clean flavors and absence of grease that can dominate lesser attempts at curry dishes. The fact that Immys attracts a diverse array of patrons, including those from various nationalities, speaks volumes about its universal appeal.

Whether you’re craving the aromatic, spice-laden Chicken Egusi and Chickpea Coconut Curry, the vibrant Half Jerk Half Chicken Curry Combo Plate, or a refreshing Tropical Smoothie paired with tangy Lassi, Immys African Cuisine promises a feast that is as much an exploration of culture as it is a sensory delight. Given the praise and repeated visits by loyal customers, it’s clear that Immys is more than just a restaurant—it’s a small gem bringing East African culinary treasures to Milwaukee with heart and soul.

Pro tip from the locals: arrive early to beat the popular lines and savor your meal at your own pace—this is a culinary experience well worth lingering over.

Hands down amazing. This place has definitely shown me that you can’t perceive taste. My first experience in person and the food was divine. I love the Coconut Chicken Curry and Goat Curry. Each dish is simmered in a flavorful sauce that pairs heavenly with the fufu. The jollof rice was spiced perfectly. Definitely recommend.

I wish I toook a picture of the food. It was “Amazing” with a big “A” for real —- they are so kind and let you sample the dishes. The food tasted clean and not greasy - spices authentic and great menu selections. Definitely a “go-back-to!” Anytime you see other nationalities eating at an African restaurant—- that tells you a lot.
